Mr. Israelsen is an intellectual property attorney and manages the San Diego office of Knobbe, Martens. His major areas of practice include advising startup companies and established businesses in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical areas, including worldwide patent protection strategies; avoidance of third party intellectual property; portfolio building; due diligence; intellectual property opinions; and licensing. He is also a prolific angel investor (with over 30 startup investments) and is an active member and past treasurer of Tech Coast Angels. He is a founding investor of Kalyra Pharmaceuticals, as well as CardioCreate Inc. and Actavalon, Inc.
Mr. Egan has spent over 35 years working in the travel industry. He started at Alamo Rent A Car, Inc. in 1973, became an owner in 1979, and became chairman and majority owner from 1986 to 1996 when he sold the company to AutoNation. In 2000, AutoNation spun off the car rental division and he was named chairman and served in that position until 2003. Since 1996, Mr.Egan has served as the controlling investor of Dancing Bear Investments, Inc., a privately held investment company. Prior to his many business successes, Mr. Egan held various administration positions at Yale University and taught at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is a graduate of the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration . Throughout his career, he has been presented with many honors and awards, including the prestigious Horatio Alger Distinguished American Award in 1997.
Dr. Hatfield is a co-founder and serves as the President, CEO, and Director of Scientific Operations of Actavalon. In 1970, he became a founding faculty member of the School of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine where he quickly moved through the academic ranks and enjoyed a distinguished academic career. Throughout his professional career, He has been a strong advocate in support of technology transfer from the University to the commercial sector. He has been the scientific founder of several biotechnology companies, and has served as a consultant to California biotechnology companies and venture capital firms. Following his retirement from UC Irvine in 2011, Dr. Hatfield has devoted his time to collaborating with UC faculty to establish startup companies for the transfer of proprietary technologies to the commercial sector for public benefit. Currently, he is the co-founder and startup CEO of two such companies, 4Design Biosciences LLC and Actavalon Inc. He also is the scientific co-founder of Verdezyne Inc., a successful synthetic biology company, located in Carlsbad, CA, using computational and biological methods to engineer microorganisms for the production of bio-based chemicals to provide sustainable, environment friendly, cost effective, alternatives to petrochemicals.
Teague Egan (born 6 July 1988) is an American businessman, investor, and philanthropist. He is the founder and CEO of 1st Round Enterprises, which includes divisions in sports, music, as well as a venture arm. Teague's first company, the record label, took their first artist to #1 on the iTunes charts in 2010. Shortly after at age 22, Teague became the youngest ever, and first contract agent certified by the National Football League Players Association prior to graduating college. Since then 1st Round has transitioned the sports focus more towards technology and creating intellectual property around fibers, fabrics, and footwear. After studying business entrepreneurship at the University of Southern California, Teague completed the Executive Program in exponential technology at Singularity University. He has an immense interest in the health and wellness sector from both a fitness and medicinal perspective, leading him into the medical and recreational cannabis industry. Teague also co-founded the Reality Ride Challenge in 2015, completing a 2109 mile bike ride from Boston to Miami to raise funds and awareness for paralysis.
Mr. Haynie is a business attorney. For most of his career, Mr. Haynie practiced law with the San Diego offices of large national law firms. In 2010, Mr. Haynie started his own law firm where his practice continues to emphasize business law including a broad range of corporate, commercial, financial, technology and real estate matters. Mr. Haynie routinely handles multi-million dollar transactions. Over the course of his career, Mr. Haynie has represented hundreds of enterprises ranging from start-ups to public companies, including many prominent San Diego companies, and has closed transactions with a cumulative dollar value measured in many hundreds of millions. Mr. Haynie received an accounting degree from the University of Utah in 1981, and a law degree from Brigham Young University in 1984.
